I have an older 20hp Briggs Go-Devil Longtail that over the winter I have installed a big block carb with K&N cone filter, aftermarket exhaust and rev kit. I run this motor on a Welded Alumacraft 1546 mod v with pods. While working on it I noticed my prop is pretty worn, down to 8.5 inches. Wonder what the best size would be as I am looking to replace it?

Should I just purchase thru Go Devil? Or can I get the same or better prop at the same or cheaper price from Backwater, Hill Marine Ect?

Would it be worth sending my current worn prop out to a prop shop to be rebuilt and use as a spare? If so any suggestions on where to send it, most places round here look at me like I am crazy when I start talking about mud motors.

Last question, with the added .5 inch a new prop will give me my prop will then hang lower then my skeg, not sure if that is normal or if I have worn my skeg down that much as well.

Sounds like the skeg is worn. Typically they ate lower than the prop. Last prop I bought from backwater performs well, guessing you'll need the same prop I ordered. Backwater 9x5. Mud buddy makes the tiger props as well. I don't think they're expensive as far as mud motor props go

It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

Get the right prop from godevil and have somebody welded up the skeg

Talked with the guys at Backwater, super helpful. They were torn between telling me 9x6 or 9x7, ended up going with a 9x6, said test it in clean water, if I am unhappy send it back with a couple bucks to cover shipping and they will send me the 9x7. IDK any place else that does that.

Their customer service is second to none.
