Just picked up a new HDR and when I switch to reverse it sounds like it's grinding and knocking. Doesn't sound right to me. Forward is smooth and quiet and switch to reverse and sounds like it's gonna come apart. Anyone heard of this before?

I just picked mine up last week, I was told reverse will sound different from forward but mine does not sound like knocking or grinding. . . . . . Yet.

What boat is it on? If you got an Excel, that's your problem.

My HDR makes noise when it's in reverse too but it's only noticeable out of water.

That makes me feel better, does it sound likes it knocking at the upper sprocket out of the water

https://youtu.be/9mMW4WS0wqo Goes nto forward first then reverse. It's hard to hear but sound like something is rubbing/knocking near the clutch assembly. Gonna pull the cover this afternoon. Does this sound normal to hdr owners.

wonder why mine came with a BPS Q muffles rather than the stock muffler you have unless it is something prodigy does special.

Dude dump that shit in the water ASAP! Its not supposed to do that.

I would describe the sound as more of a howl low grown when in reverse. As for your vid could not tell much with you revving the motor. Do it with it at idle

I gear the noise you describe in the video you posted and can hear it in freddys video also. Sounds like it's doing great

Yeah it sounds like it's around the upper sprocket. Dealer told me when I picked it up that all of them do it...

Mine does the same thing, but it seems to be more in forward than reverse. Was told by mud buddy that they have a different sound to them

The "Different" noise is the sound of the planetary gears doing there job in reverse. The sun gear is spinning the planets which in return spin the ring gear which is bolted to the sprocket. Notice even most vehicles somewhat "whine" in reverse.

Brand new...4 1/2 hours.

Talked to Mudbuddy and they say its the norm to have some noise in reverse on these units, just didn't sound right to me. Been running good though.
