I recently noticed a small crack on the leading edge of my PD lower unit on the small flange where the skeg bolts on. It's up at the very top where the top bolt goes through. I just had a new skeg installed about a month back I'm wondering now if it could have been possibly from over tightening that bolt or if maybe I just hit something that cracked it. I just want to make sure nothing comes apart on me or that this small crack couldn't be of any harm to anything on the LU??? What do you guys think?? I know it's cast which is fairly prone to cracks like this and I would think any sort of repair would be tough.... |

I wouldn't lose sleep over it. You got another five or six holding your skeg on. Plus, crack has already terminated at the bolt hole on one side and the outside edge on the other. The pan head screw is still holding it in place with the but on the other side. Throw some Belzona on it and never look at it again. |
