Post GT Performance Skeg Replacement
I searched before I decided to post and couldn't find anything on the specific subject. Just wanted to see if anyone else had a similar issue.

2021 GTR40XD. Went to remove the bolts that hold the factory skeg on so I could replace it with the performance skeg and I cannot for the life of me get the bolts to budge. I tried an impact wrench with the 1/4 Allen key, nothing. Gonna try a long Allen key with a breaker bar this weekend. Anyone else have this issue when removing the factory skeg? Have about 20 hours on the motor. I have had several hard timber strikes on the existing skeg. Wondering if some of those hard strikes could have bound it up a little bit? Any suggestions? Just don't want to strip out the bolt heads trying to remove it.

The first time you remove it, spray them with kroil and then put an Allen key on it with a cheater and take them off that way. Once you remove it once it’s a lot easier to remove it the second time and whenever else you take it off

Good deal. My next move was the cheater bar. Appreciate the response. I couldn't believe how damn tight they were on there.

Broke the first bolt loose with a breaker bar and the rest came out with just the wrench. The skeg was in there pretty tight also. Rubber mallet and some elbow grease finished it off.

I have a new 2021 GTR coming in next week. Getting caught up on all the tips. What is the impact of the slight bend in the skeg?

Bending the skeg counteracts the rotation of the prop some, which lesses prop torque when you are throttled up at speed.

Having tangled up a sunken hockey net in a back bay (Damn pond hockey kids!) I had a reason to chop this as it would have made the net extraction a lot easier.

This scenario is essentially the same as telling your wife the turbo you want to install in her car is the only thing that will keep the engine working longer.

Update

Threw a worked prop I got from Mr Chauvin here
Worked fat blade

With a decent chop and steady wind I was bumping steady 29-30mph with 8 dozen dekes and full hunting load.
Not saying it was the skeg but it likely didn’t hurt.

Cutting that skeg does help my brother. Glad you getting some good hunts in and the boat is running good!
