It means that there's a different company building a prop that isn't related to this one at all.

I just saw on facebook that people are getting their props in the mail from PD. Waiting for a review, especially on top end speed, when someone gets to run one...

I believe they still have some fine tuning to work on the top end. I should have mine any day now. I'll post a before and after.

I thought about calling of and getting them to send me some gears from a Gen 2. Idk if that would even work or what kind of gains you would see but I know they changed the ratio from Gen 2 to the Gen 3

Captain Obvious! Why you think all these people want to try out the new 2 blade vs the 3 blade? lol

They all have Gen III's!

And i doubt gears have anything to do with the gen II compared to the Gen III. My understanding is its in the clutch.

It's the 2:1 reduction the prop is spinning slower that's why they're to get the prop situation fixed to make up the speed loss. Nothing to do with the clutch.

Maybe from my lack of experience with the lower untis, but where is the reduction?
I guess i always thought it was in the clutch, because isnt that how most inboard mudboats are?
I could be completley wrong though.

You can't swap the gears. The LU knuckle is different. It's internally larger for the bigger ring gear.

Gen 3s have a larger clutch, but the ratio difference is in the gearing in the LU.

Correct and agree. I have had both a gen 2 and gen 3. The gen 3 much more beefy. And rear seal appears much better.

I'm not a boat drive expert, but in my ski boat I swap prop outs with different pitchs depending on if we plan to pull a lot heavy skiers, or higher speeds or barefooting or cruising high speed. So props make a world of difference in speed/power.

Surface drive could be slightly different, since you get to play with the "bite" more. If you got some rpm left on the limiter, I would think prop would make a big difference to ultizie the extra rpms.

I haven't heard of anyone that's ran one yet. I wish they would've had it out 4 months ago when I replaced my worn 3 blade. I couldn't bring myself to spend another $250+ right now considering my current prop is basically still brand new.

I would be absolutely flabbergasted if the new unicorn prop would give you that much more on top.

I'm still trying to figure out whey they changed the lower units from the Gen 2, I haven't really heard negative things about this Gen 3's but I feel like more people would rather the Gen 3 over the Gen 3. I wish yhey would leave the Gen 2 option out there if you wanted to special order one. Bc when I eventually have to get another I would want another Gen 2

When I ordered mine I still had the opportunity to get a gen 2 lower. What I was told was that the gen 3 was geared more for running a bigger boat / bigger load with a stock motor. Having never ran a PD with a gen 2 lower I couldn't tell you if the low end of the gen3 makes up for what was lost on top from the gen 2. All I can tell you is I'm happy with the way mine pushes my 1860 shit box :)
