Anybody ever thought about getting a mud run together somewhere around Vermilion Parish? Because I know there are a lot of guys around here that own MM that have acess to spots in the marsh with good conditions for a mud run. |

There is quite a bit of mud around Intracoastal City. Some of it is hard though, like get out and stand on it hard, but other areas south of the Intracoastal are soft. You usually want to stay off of the flats in the Little Bay because all the clams chew up your prop. Onion Lake never has more than a couple inches of water even on high tide and a mud motor can run it. I think I have come up with a few new areas that would be good for a ride, but I need to go test run some of them. When the mud is hard in some spots, you dig a hole and it doesn't refill leaving your prop nothing but air. I guess the biggest problem with Vermilion Parish is that most of the land is privately owned and closed off. |

yea i know all the places you are talking about. I use to hunt mud point in Little Bay. You are right on a good low tide Little Bay has some good mud flats I have ran them quite often been in Onion lake too. But some ol boy bought the property around Onion lake an he's a real ass about people riding in the lake. I do know a few people that own or lease some big tracts of property south of Intracoastal City also. Let me know when you want to go test some areas I'm sure i can scratch up a few guys that wouldn't mind going make some test runs. Where are you located?? |

Yeah, I was about to add Apache too between the 4 mile cut and the Boston Canal, but most of the bayous on that side have been plugged to keep people out and water in. I am going out there right now since I just got my boat back after it spent duck season in North Louisiana and then the last few weeks sitting at the welder waiting for a minor repair. I can be at the launch in half an hour from my front door. I may not be available for a while though depending on when you guys go because at some point my carburetor is coming off for modifications. There are some shallow bayous around the south end of the Delcambre Canal too, but it is a long ride just to get down there from Delcambre. Has anyone been in Tigre Lagoon? I used to launch at Jean Marie or Don's with an outboard but never checked it out (guessing it is shallow). Anybody know if Jean Marie Landing ever reopened after the owners passed away? |

no i don't think it has re opended but there is another boat launch if you keep going down the raod that Jean Marie is one at the end of a gravel road thats where i launch to go to the duck lease. The water gets low in those canals on a north wind or a good low tide but not so much in the summer |

Yeah, I am beginning to realize that thanks to our judges always siding with landowners, most of what should be state water bottom is off limits and there is not anywhere to go any longer other than the gulf, bay, and major commercial navigation channels. Here is what it looked like out there today (click pic for video). Please forgive the terrible quality as I was having a difficult time driving and holding my phone plus the sun was in my face. |

It was after 4pm when I left the house so I did not have time to go all over creation. I just rode around Intracoastal City area a bit. I spent most of my time trying to find my way out of a labyrinth-like section of broken marsh (not shown in the video). I was starting to think I was going to be spending the night (even with GPS). |

After some carburetor tuning I went back out today. It was pretty much the opposite of last week -super high tide today. I could have gone almost anywhere with an outboard today. I noticed that almost every bayou and canal from Intracoastal city going west almost all the way to Boston is plugged, and I don't mean plugged with gates, I mean plugged. That has to be disastrous for fisheries. The marshes are supposed to be the nursery grounds for the fish, shrimp, etc (nekton for you ejicated' folk), but if they cannot get in the marsh, they do not have a place to spawn. I would love to see a comparison of fisheries populations over the last 50 years... |
