 1748 PD X series with 27pd
Well, I picked up my first mud rig from KP and Peck last week and finally put it in the water this last Thursday. It is a 1748 flat front with the extended deck and just a couple other options. The motor is the 27 Kohler short shaft with no reverse and manual trim; I figure I can put those on later if needed. We were excited to put it in the water and see what she would do. We don't run a lot of mud, but a lot of stumps and vegetation. It was extremely cold natured to start, which Peck warned us it would be, but we eventually got it going. However, it refused to be put in gear at idle. It would stall out. We would have to engage the clutch at about 1800 rpms for it to not stall out. Once running we were hitting 22 mph deep water with two people and light gear. We had it loaded with a lot of gear and the dog at one point but never checked the speed. It continued to act up on us if we got out of the throttle and even died out a couple times at wot. We loaded it up on the trailer and called Peck and he was suspicious we had gotten bad fuel, so we disposed of the fuel and got fresh fuel (87 octane this time, instead of 89). We took it back to the lake and it continued to not idle well or idle in gear at all. I did run with just me and got 24.4 mph out of it in deep water with very little chop. Finally, as were were pulling back to the dock to load it, it decided to idle at about 1000-1200 rpms while in gear. We disengaged and engaged the clutch a few times, and it never bogged out or died, so hopefully it cleaned itself out and we had just got some bad fuel. Overall, we were very happy with the performance running 20-24 mph and getting 3500-3650 rpms loaded in the water. This thing will sling some lilly pads. I don't have any action shots, but will try to post some pics from when we picked it up.

I'm pretty sure it was just bad fuel, but I too am sure they'll take care of me. Their service and reputation are a big reason we went with the prodrive set up. What do you guys think of they rpms and speeds? Do those sound about right?

Disconnect the govenor & can get it to 4400 with a load. Just gotta use your own better judgement when stuck.
