14 Duck Water BW with 12 hp Cooperhead.
We took out a used trade in boat with the 12hp Cooperhead to see what it would do, we ran this boat with a 27 PD a few weeks ago, but that was to much weight and HP to be legal (rated for on 20hp) and the boat was a little squirly in the turns with that big motor on it. So we decided to try the 12hp coophead on it today demoing a customer.
Deep river channel and protected backwater.
One man - 235 lbs - 16.5 average speed in deep water. In protected shallows (1.5-4') ran 17.8 mph.
Two men 235 and 190- Shallow Protected water - 15.6 average speed.
Three men - 235, 190 and 210 - 12.5 top speed (this boat is only rated for two, but we wanted to see how much weight it could handle.
This is a heavy boat, I would guess at least 350 #s or more. It ran well with two men, we were surprised. With the smaller motor the boat turn alot better and handled well compared to the tests with did the the bigger motor, just to much weight on the transom for this little boat, the lighter Coophead was a better match.
This rig is for sale currently, so now that we know what it will do personally, I would have no issue recommending this boat with the 12 or even the 18 Cooperhead for a two man hunting rig. Our Prowlers out ran the boat and out turned it, but this rig was stable and did well.
