 23hp gdlt to a 35hp gdlt?
Currently I have a 16x48 gdsd boat with the 23hp gdlt vanguard. I always have a good load in it whether it is decoys blind and friends or the carp deck and a generator. I was thinking about putting a new or used 35hp gdlt on it because currently the 23hp is chugging pretty good and i'd like a little more power to get the boat going. Im no expert so any information about pros or cons and maybe the insurance side would be great. Im in minnesota if that matters at all.

 Re: 23hp gdlt to a 35hp gdlt?
I ran that same 16x48 GD hull happily for 2 years with a 35 GDSD....
It was a very safe and stable hull - not great with 3 man loads but a good 2 man rig - which is why I moved up to a GD 18x44....
Had full replacement insurance with Progressive - even though I was a bit over the HP rating - they never asked and I never told....

Just put the 35 on the boat and it definitely pushes the boat a lot quicker. I am very happy with it. Thanks for the input haha wild bastards

Buddy had a 1648 with a 35 gdlt and he really liked it. Rode in it a few times and it always seemed to carry us really well.

 Re: 23hp gdlt to a 35hp gdlt?
With the boat empty it goes around 23 mph. And it really has a lot more torque than the old 23. It was kind or weird, I had a heavy homemade carp deck on the front with a 24 volt trolling motor and the extra batteries and it went 22 mph. I thought I would have gotten quite a bit more speed out of it but I guess not. I am still very happy with it, 3 guys and I'm pretty sure she still gets going faster than just me with the 23.
