The 4400 has carb heads exhaust I was wrong. The efi wasn't much slower than the 44 so I guess the efi performs well just didn't like the thick grass much with the gear ratio it has it in. They are workin on changing the ratio on the 37 to match the 44

I got a prodigy 1854 and boss 37 on order from boat dr, I gotta see what the boss is all about. I like the fact they swung for the fence with the design, only time will tell how they last

Post Re: Boss motors
I have a 44, I will have had it a year in Oct. and have about 35 hours on it. Not a lot of hours like you ask about but its all I have to tell about.
I really like it.
I've put it though several different types of environments, salt water, fresh water, cypress tree swamps, mud flats, a lot of heavy vegetation. It has performed great. In skinny water, or heavy vegetation it pull hard it puts my boat on the surface as fast as I can give it fuel.
I don't feel like I've gotten even close to it's limits, I know other guys would probably test it harder, but I just use it to take me where I want to go. I have hit a good many stumps, a few really hard (like I was nervous I might have torn something up hard), but did hurt anything. I've gone over mud flats that I knew it should run, and a couple that I thought it would be chancy, no problem. I've run heavy (sometimes very heavy) vegetation more than anything else. This is the only dying in gear issue I think you can have. I was in a cut with very heavy vegetation, a dense cover of long thin vines, and the cut played out. I was already going slow, low rmp's, and I had to turn around, when I did I had to get off the gas completely. The vines wrap the prop and killed the motor in drive. So it was stuck in gear (it was a bypass) and it won't start in gear. I just had to trim it up use the push pole to clear the prop, start it, put it in gear in the air, get the rmp's up a little trim down and was good to go.
I have no regrets buying a Boss and do recommend them to anyone that interested.
Good luck with whatever you decide to get.
And the people at Boss really are very good people!

I have a 1851 dry weight over 700lbs, when I first got it ...with me, a buddy, both about 190 lbs, ice chest, and half of a tank of gas, we GPS it at 30. l'm down to top speeds of around 27, because I keep putting stuff I need in the boat, a fat boat ... lol. That's really is fast enough for me, and it still pulls like a train. That's with two person load l've not GPS it by myself.
Your welcome if I can answer any questions you have I'll be happy to try.

CJB I'll try to get something together, a friend put a gopro on the front of the boat last week and I'm supposed to get the video tomorrow, I think it's mostly going to be just boat riding...but I think I remember running a few veggies that day.

Wow. So a hunt deck is damn near a requirement for one of them.. They're starting to look better and better. I'm anxious to see how they hold up after this duck season and everyone puts some hours on them. I'm not really worried about having the fastest boat on the water I just want something reliable and easy to drive.

I saw them go forward at our fun run. Was very impressed with the speeds and how well they performed . Only thing I didn't like was the loud gear whining. Other then that the motor performed well .
