Post subject:  Im looking for a Review of 1854 PD/ 35 GT

Im thinking of selling my 36 PD and buying a 35 GT. Need the instant reverse and since I run alot of salt water, the GT seems to draft a bit shallower, I also like the fact that the muffler is on the top and not sitting close to the water.

Any reviews of a 1854 PD with 22inch sides and transom with a 35 GT?

I'm kinda curious of what the GT will push my hull.

Noticed no one has given you any help....

I tested a 1848PD round chine with a 35GTR and with 2 guys it ran 28.7 (about 400 lbs) with 4 guys it ran 18mph(1000lbs) The GTR will work ok, but be sure to get ready for a learning curv with the GTR.

I ran 900 pounds of beef plus hunting gear in my 17x54GTB with a stock cdi motor last teal season and it averaged 24mph

If 4* really mattered, you would not see GTRs on anything other than a 20* transom. They run on any alweld, g3, etc. Supposedly Aucoin does a 15* or 16* angle and they run GTRs on them.

Who goes by what the manufacturer recommends these days anyways? It'll work... run it! I was just saying that putting such a big "shim" in there to get that angle I dont think would be a smart thing... nothing more.

it will work fine on whatever degree you put it on....but however the GT is manufactured for 20* so if you put it any different it will perform different. i have witnessed first hand, a main reason i have just sold my steve scully hull and contacted uncle j for a new one with a 20* transom. it will help for performance in reverse and in the mud/veggies to have that 20* and im sure there are a few people on here that can confirm this.

well I spoke to the guys at GT. They have a few engines on PD boats. The engines run real good on the PD hull with no real issues to speak of. Most of the engines are shimmed a little to get the correct angle.

PS- Gt does make a high transom model!!!

Have you pulled the trigger yet bud? We need to get out and do some scouting over the next few weeks.

Newton,
Im just going to keep the PD, but add the hydro T&T and possibly get some head work. I will shoot you an email in the next week or so to catch up.

My boat has a 16.5 degree transom, 21" tall, I was informed by Chops that this will keep the prop slightly higher for more top end speed, but not let it dig quite as deep in the mud. If it were a 20 degree angle, you would probably have a little more mud biting capability, but slightly slower top end speed, going by what I was told.

I dont run alot of mud here in florida, it is mostly heavy vegatation. I think the GT with work just fine on my PD hull.

Maxxis' runs a gtr on a brother breaux boat that is setup just like a prodrive boat. His boat does great down here inthe marsh. I did see one time where the reverse didn't work at well in the mud but that's it. I never seen him have to be pulled out, except when he flattened the cam.
