All i can say is WOW!!!! Got kyle's dad's boat for the weekend and just took it for the the first ride. Turn's like no other boat i ever been in.. I tried my hardest to make it slide and could not get it to spin. It does a hell of a bunny hope tho.LOL I was in the marsh in about 8 inches of water. Went down some curvy bayous were i usally take my time in it cause it is pretty bad with trees and all but went trough their at 35mph was pretty cool.It has the sport deck on it but i will get the full huntdeck. I rode in alot of differant Gt boats and none compare. I can't wait to get mine |

I'm just curious.... cause everything with these boats is a trade off..... If it turns as well as you says it does, I'm wondering if it isn't similar to a round chine, performance-wise. Did you get a chance to see how much water it drafts? And did you run it in any real shallow stuff? Thanks. |
Author: | craig [ Sun Apr 12, 2009 8:32 am ] |
Post subject: | Re: Gator-Tail 17x52 EXTREME |
No, it isn't similar to a round chine. It is a square chine, with a stepped bottom like this one. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=805&p=13151#p13151 |

Post subject: | Re: Gator-Tail 17x52 EXTREME |
Yeah, I saw the video.... Looks like a nice design. My point was.... Since it doesn't slide (i.e. round chine), how does it do in shallow water? If it drafts the same amount of water as a square, than that's a killer design. If it drafts a ton more, then...... it's similar to the way a round chine would perform. |

Post subject: | Re: Gator-Tail 17x52 EXTREME |
It doesn't seem to draft any more water than the 18x60 i was sitiing on the side of but i really didn't pay alot of attention to it. Kyle and them got to put it in the mud last week and was pretty excited on how well it did. Said it turned really good and had no problems with takeing off and said its close if not better in reverse. Craig pm me your phone# again i got a new phone and it was saveed to my sim |

Post subject: | Re: Gator-Tail 17x52 EXTREME |
with the stepped design it will draft more because u have less volume displaced. when u are looking at it from the side it may look like it drafts the same but because it stepped the middle of the boat will be drafting more than a simmilar sized square chine boat |

The boat will draft the same as a square chine hull. Elevation difference in the bottom and steps is around 2". I have not seen a boat yet that will draft 4" little lone 2". |

Observations from a guy out west: 1) That's a very nice boat. Congrats to Gatortail. 2) You guys check your history books. Phowler Boats has had an Extreme Series of Phowlers out for years. I think PW is saying that there are lots of potential names out there for a manufacturer to pick before they use an existing industry trade name. 3) I think it is quite funny that when Gator Trax was the only hunt deck boat in town everyone on this board argued against this style of boat's appearance and it's benefits. My, my, how times have changed with so many people jumping on the step deck and hunt deck bandwagon. ![]() |

Post subject: | Re: Gator-Tail 17x52 EXTREME |
For the record Mr. Craig. The first Phowler boats were build in conjunction with Phatbuoy Z Marine LLC in 2004, they were not extremes. In the fall of 2004/spring of 2005 we started working with Phatbuoy Z to design and build what would become the Pholwer Series Extreme. Thes first boat were completed in April 2005 and we ran it until Novemeber before we decided to introduce it as the Phowler Extreme. The first Phowler Series Extreme were offered to the public in May of 2006. In December of 2006, Phatbuoy Z owner and boat designer Jerry Hough got sick and the business had to close up in February of 2007. In March of 2007 Jerry offered to let us have the design, in April we moved production to Iowa and contracted with TMT to build our Phowler Series boats. In July of 2007 Jerry Hough passed away. In July of 2008 we decided to discontinue our relationship with TMT and bring production more inhouse. They choose to try and keep building our design after we parted ways, they did not make it to long and closed up in January of this. As for the 2072, it is a boat folks up here have been asking us to build for several years, so last spring we started working on the design and we built the first ones last fall, one is running in MN and we have two running up here. It is a big hull and a big water hull. It is actually small compared to some of the commercial boats we see on the river up here, so up to 25' with 10' beams. Sorry Gatortail for jacking you thread, did not intend for it to get this involved. Nice boat you guys are putting out, just don't agree with using someone else established trade name. PW |

Nice boat! but I wouldnt let the dog ride on the bow like that...too easy for him to get thrown out and chewed up by the prop before you know it.. A member on another forum posted pics of his dog after the repair surguries.... As to sliding I thought round chines were the type of boats that slid ![]() |

Post subject: | Re: Gator-Tail 17x52 EXTREME |
Mr. Muddoctor, Thank you for taking time to set the record on this. I am truly sorry for posting inacurate info about your "extreme" line of boats, I was commenting on info you provided in a earlier post that was obviously inaccurate. Again, I'm sorry. Now to the interesting part. I doubt very seriously, and I mean very seriously, that Gator-Tail would copy your so-called trademark name purposely and/or knowingly. I am sure that if they had known about your "EXTREME" line of boats they would have chosen another name for the boat that this thread was started over such as "MORE EXTREME THAN THE EXTREME" or as Mr. Brooks said Mo Better or Mo Better than the Extreme because based on the info I have found on your website the boats in your "extreme" line are basically regular ole' jon boats with extra bracing. So with that being said why would they not want to call their new boat extreme being there is no comparison between the two? I am sure Gator-Tail would not want to have people thinking that their is any similarities between their boats and yours because down here in south louisiana we like mud boats for our mudmotors, not regular jon boats. You see, if they were building the same boat as you and calling it the same thing then you would have a reason to gripe. But they are not. Did Ford get pissy when Chevy built an automobile and called it a car? Did Ranger throw a fit when skeeter made a "Bass" boat and called it a "Bass" boat? Maybe. At least they didn't call it a Ranger Bass boat. But the truth is that there are no similarities between the two boats in question and have totally different designs and as Mr. Brooks said above, they may not even call it that. They may come up with a more appropraite name to call it such as what I wrote above because truth be told, the boat is one bad mutha, and again, I am sure they want noone confusing their products with yours. Again, thanks for the record straitening! |
