Hello everyone, my first post here. I'm in the process of buying my first mud motor rig. I've been hunting off an airboat for years and have decided to make the switch. I've narrowed my search down to two boats:

Boat 1 is a Tracker Grizzly 17' with a Pro-Drive x36

Boat 2 is a Gator Tail 1754 with a Gator Tail 35 and option package 2.

Which one would y'all buy and why?

Either way you go, get the matching combo!

I would go with the Gatortail combo. I know a boy here who has the Tracker Grizzly, the Gatortail boat is definitely the better of the 2.

Not to mention, isn't the Tracker a mod V hull?

Duckhunter, what would you buy?

The Griz is a mod v hull.

I'll be duck and gator hunting and inshore fishing out of the boat. I'm too old to look for mud. I'll just use it to get out a hole at low tide.

MM's perform better on hulls built specific for em. Take into consideration transom angle, bracing, hull thickness, etc. It will work but after a short time ur hull will be shot. Best to go ahead and spend the extra $ and get a specific hull. Ull be alot happier in the long run instead of having to buy another hull

that mov v griz will throw water away from the prop. you will not be able to trim the motor like you should. it will work but not like it should. it also wont turn very well.

I have a Grizzly that has a MM enroute for it. I have 2 buddies running MM's on mod v hulls and they have no complaints. I do agree w/ the guys on here that mod v hulls are'nt the best for MM's but I live in an area that has no MM dealers so I took what I could get. If I had the choices that you have I'd pick boat #2.

I used to run a 1650 mod v xpress with my 35 MB. I now run a 1854 uncle-j custom. It really is night and day difference. I tore up my xpress (i bought it used and got a very good deal so i didnt loose money) in one hunting season. My 1854 carries a load 10x better and runs and floats much shallower. Another big difference is that with 2 ppl in the boat i can now stay planed off going about 12 mph where in the xpress i pretty much had to be running 20+ that makes for a big difference when you are in a shallow stumpy area where you need to run shallow but cant run very fast. Honestly, if you think you can get by with a .100 mod v, you can probably get by without a mudmotor. I thought i could, then destroyed a boat.

A camo 1754 with a 35GTR.

The folks there were so responsive and friendly, it made Bass Pro seem even more like a big box mega store with no customer service.

You got it Greg. I've got several other stories about Bass Pro and not only their lack of customer service, but just a general lack of giving a sh#t.

I'm happy to support the folks at Gator Tail, and the American small businessman, and their stuff isn't made in China like Bass Pro!
