i hunt ducks hard in minnesota but not much on mud lots of rivers and cat tails some light mud. so is it worth the extra money for a mud motor or just keep with outbord. and theres no logs or hard stuff for me to run in to so wood a weldbuld boat be ok for what i do or is there something else that is resanable sorry for the spelling lol. thanks for all input |

have not hunted out of a weldbuilt boat, but as long as it is HD enought to handle where you go, probably ok. i've owned Excel, War Eagle, Xpress, Gator-Trax, and Triton and while all were fine, I liked the Excel best and it seemed most durable. I would say test run them and see which you like best. IMO, as far as mud motors, they get you places you cant go with an outboard. if you hunt light mud, an outboard wont do you much good, but a good mud motor will get you in and get you out. ive hunted minnesota and we always used a mud motor, especially when the rivers were down. |

All depends on how you run it. An outboard will get you alot of places, but it only takes one good stump or one good wade of weeds or mud to kill that outboard. Second, you can get to the cattails with an outboard, but can you get through them to the spots no one else goes without clogging up the water intakes? Some areas you can and in those places and outboard is just fine. If you do want to go off the beaten path and explore new areas that you are not familiar with, then a good MM hull and motors are the way to go. Other nice thing about the MM, no water pumps to clog or freeze up in the late season. You do not have to spend and arm and leg on a new rig, a good Phowler with Cooperhead or PD can make a nice affordable rig you can use year round. Think about how you will use the boat now and what you want to do with it if you could and in the future and let that be your deciding factor. PW |

Just keep the outboard and grow a pair. |

Was i your shoes just last week. I live in the Upper Peninsula and was torn on what I wanted to get, ended up with a new Excel 1751 F4 with .125 hull and a MB 45 Black Death. It goes places my old boat could never go, plus they can do everything a regular outboard can. |

I am a new owner of a PD and you're right, Migrator, I've been places that I didn't know was there. I got my set up 2 weeks ago and I've yet to do anything but ride around in it. I still haven't got over capability, I will never own another water cooled outboard!! |
