1644 GoDevil/35 hp GD Surface Drive
MM Brand: GoDevil Horsepower: 35 Boat Brand: Godevil Boat Size: 1644 Boat Layout: Split seat
Speeds | Shallow Water: 29-30+; 26-28 Speeds | Deep Water: 27-28; 25-27 Total Boat Load With Gear Etc: First set of numbers is one 235 pound guy. Second set of speeds is with additional 200 pounds in boat (wife and dog). I put the gas tank up front when I'm alone and leave it in back when others are along. Conditions Tested In: No wind.
Comments: This is a 1998 boat which is only .100" thick vs. the newer models that are .125" I've also got a trolling motor and battery mounted up front. It will just barely porpoise when I run alone and it's not constant. Can't wait to see how it works this fall. Working good for fishing so far at least.

How did she preform for the hunting season. I have a 1644 GoDevil boat with a full seat and was thinking about putting a MB 35 SD on it this spring.

I'm glad it worked out for you. I have the same boat except with the full bench seat and am thinking about putting a MB 35 SD before to long. It's is nice to see other boats with this size motor doing their job.

Re: 1644 GoDevil/35 hp GD Surface Drive
I gues you didn't have any problems with swamping or water coming over the back? GD told me the 35 was too heavy for my 16x44, but it looks like its only 25 lbs difference. I'll just go on a diet

Re: 1644 GoDevil/35 hp GD Surface Drive
I have a 16x44 GD boat that I can't imagine anything heavier on the back than the 23 Mini Lite that I have. The boat is only rated for a 29, I think.

Re: 1644 GoDevil/35 hp GD Surface Drive
yeah,
I've got one too. Mine has a 27 hp GDSD, which is only 20 lbs or so lighter than that 35. I have no problems with the weight of the 27. Plus if I pull the deep cycle marine battery out and put in a little lawnmover job, it would probably be a wash on the 20 lbs. I think they are rated for a 30.

Have you had this rig in the stumps? if so how does it handle under those conditions?

Re: 1644 GoDevil/35 hp GD Surface Drive
I have a 16x44 with a 35 MBSD on it I had to put small tabs on the back 1 1/4 x 7 inch on the back to stop the porpoisng I also put water wings on it to make it ride a little higher in the water and to stop the water from rolling over the sides the water wings are the best thing I have ever done to the boat. if you stop fast you will get water in the back but that will happen with any boat. I did a float test with another 16x44 with a 27 gdsd on it next to my boat and it is the same in the water

Re: 1644 GoDevil/35 hp GD Surface Drive
Ant trouble keeping the prop in the water at speed? Some have posted the motor doesn't want to stay in the water regardless of how much the tabs were bent on the skeg. You have a lot of bend in the two tabs? Nice rig btw.

Re: 1644 GoDevil/35 hp GD Surface Drive
I actually don't have this Godevil boat anymore. Sold it and bought a Gatortail 1646. Still using the same motor though, 35 GDSD. Haven't gotten to put a review up for the Gatortail yet, but I like the wide open floor plan of the Gatortail better. Goes a little faster too I think, but no GPS anymore so can't say for sure. I'm not putting down the GD, I just like the open boat better.
For both boats, there are times where the prop wants to blow out of the water. I didn't put any bend in the trim tabs so maybe that would cure it for me. It just isn't enough of an issue that I've worried about it.
On the Godevil with no side crimp, I added a 8 foot piece of 1" angled aluminum to the side where the crimp is in their newer 1644s. This eliminated the water riding up the sides and over the gunnels in the back. I didn't bother going any longer than 8 feet since it really was only an issue with the last couple of feet anyway. I just attached it with sheet metal screws and painted it to match the boat.
