If you looking to get a SportV the Prodrive with EFI would be a better choice and service too. JS

I owned a sport v44 and sold it to buy a gtr35. The sport v pushed my boat well with just me in it getting speeds right at 28ish. With a load it sucked ass only managing 18 with 3 guys and hunting gear. As far as the v goes in my opinion.....it is heavy and everything I hit under water or in the mud made me cringe. I had to get the case gasket replaced, which is a briggs problem. I upgraded to the handle support kit prior to having any problems with it breaking.
Now since I have sold it, there has been 2 lowers, a mid, and the exhaust fail on the motor. The handle has also been replaced.
So in comparing the two motors, in my opinion the gtr is more comfortable to operate, it is better balanced so everything you hit doesn't feel like the back of the boat is gonna fly off. And to top it all off the customer service with Gator tail can't be beat. I am glad I switched over now after driving both setups. With that being said.....GTR35 hands down on this one.

The sport v with the thicker lower unit actually performs well. It does not break like people here say it does. I ride in one all the time. I love the reverse on it. For my money I would prefer a prodrive any day of the week but the sport V is actually not as bad as said on MMT.

No, I'd rather people who have run em or owned one comment. Not a bunch of he said she said people.

You got aka, who I wouldn't trust to work on my self power old school lawn mower.

Bigrich, who can only say gtr

And tank, who now loves PD but still rocks the GTail avatar

Pete's the only one with any creditable info here

And just so its clear, I'm not knocking the v. Hell I chose it because I liked the concept and thought it would fit my type of use. I even read the reviews here and still chose the v. I have discovered tons of valuable info here and it has answered many questions I have had. To me it boiled down to having something I knew was reliable and had been tested over and over and not leave me stranded when the fish start biting or birds start moving. Its all personal preference in my opinion. Good luck with your choice.

Here's one I saw with a trashed transmission.

Not real sure where the transmission is but it's bad! Haha!

They are not as bad as people say. Most of people here only talk shit to be cool. They never actually seen or been around a sport v. I see two on a regular basis and neither have broken. I have seen every single model break. Personally I don't think I would own one. But they have fixed the problems and the new version works.

I went to gator trax to look at their boats and asked about the sport v and they told me they would not sell me one because it is not a reliable product. So when a mb dealer won't sell u a mb product red flags should start flying

Me personally I wanted a sport h when I heard about it but after talking to dealers and some that has the sport v I changed my mind very quickly. Not to mention the shitty CS the Yamaha dealer by my house used to be a mb dealer and excel dealer and droped both products because of bad customer service
