 Need motor advise
Like the title says, going to be gettin a war eagle 146 is the model 36" wide weld hull that weighs 240lbs. The 64 dollar question or in this case the 2k question is does a 12hp mudd buddy sound like too much motor for this small of a boat? I dont know if I want the "package" but the salesman is trying to push the 12hp its a 09' and I think he is tryin to clear out old stock. I only plan on using this rig in a wmu with a large marsh and flooded cornfields, also there are some dykes to pull the boat across. I have assembled all the components to make a motor of my own a 6.5 honda motor is what I have on hand. My worry is this small motor is not enough power to push a 240lb boat and 2 guys very well. I think total weight will be 800ish lbs total. Please advise as I'm pickin it up this weekend and I have zero experiance with mudd motors.

 Re: Need motor advise
I have a 16 HP GDLT pushing my little 1436 and it does great. It gets on plane with no problems at all and I'm 6 foot 6 and 350+ lbs and my brother is about the same size and I regularly take 3 guys out in my boat and it does pretty well. I mean, she aint gunna win any speed records but she gets me out and back every time with no problems. I think a 12hp MIGHT be a little under powered if anything.

 Re: Need motor advise
I run a 1442 with a 13 horse mb longtail, its a good one man/ or two man light rig but once you get a few dozen deeks or that third person it won't plane out.
I love how light it is, if you get it stuck you can shove a lil and be on your way.

 Re: Need motor advise
Where I plan on using this mostly its a supposed no wake area. But honestly I think you might have at the longest a half mile ride to the farthest spot. I bought the hole package, going to pick up tomorrow.

 Re: Need motor advise
Well, thats what I thought but I only bought it because I figure its going to last me a lifetime! After 12-15 yrs of use I wore the bottom off the last one draggin it over dykes, but now they dug most of them out so that should not be a problem.

 Re: Need motor advise
If you think a War Eagle will stand up to day in and day out mm abuse, you were mistaken.
As long as you never hit anything hard it will be okay though.

 Re: Need motor advise
Too late now I own it, but seriously I dont plan on hitting any stumps or jumping anything with it. It's a flooded crop area that I plan on hunting with it.
