 prop advice needed, 7HP scavenger
I have a 7HP kohler command pro motor on my 1236 flat bottom. The frame is a scavenger and uses the auger style prop. Would I gain any performance if I switched props ? I was looking at the beavertail prop or the backwater. I live at 6000 feet above sea level and will running the river in this little boat. Any words of wisdom would be great. Thanks

Have to use a scavenger prop, it rotates opposite of the rest of the mm's.

Re: prop advice needed, 7HP scavenger
Ive never personally ran one, but they are defenetly not the best design out there especially in the grass and mud.
Maybe DMD will chime in, he used to run a scavenger and I remember him talkin props some.

Re: prop advice needed, 7HP scavenger
Thanks again for your help. Fortunately my area is not muddy or grassy but it is rocky. I was just looking for more push. If anyone knows of a after market prop for the scavenger give me a Holla .

Re: prop advice needed, 7HP scavenger
your outa luck on a prop. the motor pushes pretty good and thay work well in the rocks. the prop strikes are not as bad as a mm prop. thay seem to roll off the rock. idde say use that motor till you get tired of it. its a good little motor just kinda odd and not that much proformance. its a sturdy one though.

Re: prop advice needed, 7HP scavenger
Scavengers should be outlawed, these are the most god awful engineered mud motors made. And they should nickname the prop the "weed vacuum", because it sucks up more weeds than it repels. I had one with a 13 Vanguard and ended up pulling the motor off and building my own frame (so I could use whatever prop I wanted).

Re: prop advice needed, 7HP scavenger
Heres the biggest thing wrong with Scavenger - The motor uses drive belts, faces backwards, and results in a backwards turning prop compared to everybody else. I tried to get Ron Hill to build me a prop in reverse for it, but he declined.
The Scavenger props are actually pretty tough, and do work well as long as you don't try to mud or run any grass flats. For your area, where you will be running rocks, it's gonna do good because the prop design doesn't hit as hard as a conventional style, it's more like a spinning screw instead of 2 blades chopping, I've nailed some old blind posts with it and it kept on trucking.
If you should find yourself trying to run grass, the only way I could get mine to do it was to cut the skeg completely off, and do away with the bolts that run through the shaft holding everything on. Weld your cavitation plate on, and trim it to be more sleek and to get rid of the gaps on the front trailing edge against the shaft, these act like a salad fork. Mold it tight to the shaft and weld it so no grass can get between them.
You can hang mud flats up. It will not grab enough material and hold it to run a mud flat, period. You need those 2 chopping blades to do that, not an auger style blade. I'll post some pics of what I did for running shallow water/mud bottom and grass.

Re: prop advice needed, 7HP scavenger
Thanks guys, for all of your advice. I like the scavenger for what I need it for, it is pretty tough and I will only be making one or two mile runs most of the time, in a rocky area, that is two feet deep or more. I would like to see pics of the mods some of you have done. BERGA
