A buddy wants to buy my old 13hp beavertail and then get a boat to match it. It originally came with a 14x48 welded express boat and that thing plowed like a wallowing pig. Throughout the forum I have seen people recommending longer and narrower boats for the smaller hp longtails. Anyone out there with real-world experience with this sized motor who has a recommended boat size? if so, what might expected performance be? We were worried if you went too small the transom might not support the weight and he probably can't afford to get pods right away. Thanks for any info.

I had my 13hp on a 1548, 13mph was as fast as it would go.. the guy who bought it put it on a 1236 and he is getting 15mph... hope this helps!!

I have mine on a 14x42, it does just shy of 15 empty and 10-12 with 500 lbs of stuff in it.

You really can't do much to get any speed from a 13, but If I had the option of a new boat it would be in the 16'-17'x38"-42"
