has anyone put like a 35hp long tail on a 1756 prodrive? Does it push it good. I don't know why I'm asking this question. Trying to gain knowledge I guess. Don't get me wron I really like my prodrive setup, but sometimes a long tail would suit me better in some situations.

I have never seen a prodrive boat except in pictures. I am willilng to bet it is a high transom (20-21") and that is a horrible match with the standard longtail 72"; I am also willing to bet it is a heavy hull. A 35 longtail can push it but it will be slow. You do point out a fact, and that is in a hard bottom, skinny water, or logjammed area, the longtail is still viable and actually has a slight advantage over the surface drive. If you don't have excessively long runs and run in that type of marsh, a longtail is indicated. Anything else, you'd be a fool to ditch the PD. Similarly, I have read of many people buying a mud motor, and then reverting back to a conventional outboard, because in fact where they run is mostly clean water and they can access the local duck hunting. A regular outboard in clean water is faster, weighs less, costs less,has reverse, etc.

Not all prodrive hulls are tall transom. You should be fine if it is 16 inches tall. It will be slower with a longtail, but it will do the job.

My boat is actually for a short shaft. it's not the tall transom. I know it would be slower, but to you think it would push it through the mud well? Our sandy/ muddy combination can be a little tricky. I thought a long shaft is nice for scouting when you don't want to be going 20-30 mph

I doubt you will be pleased with your choice, unless you are in stumps with a rock hard bottom, stay with the PD.

I had my 35 Backwater on a 17 ft PD hull just to try it out worked fairly well was able to get 21mph out of it was unable to come to a price so I didnt buy it and 21 mph deep water dint get a chance to try in skinny water
