Just wondering how many of your use and keep on a trolling motor during duck season? I was given an older but new trolling motor in the box- a MotorGuide FW40FB bow mount trolling motor with foot control- and I am studying how best to install it. I've seen those "dog bone" quick disconnect mounts (deepbluemarine.com) around 80$. I have a 2004 tracker grizzly 1648 that did not come with a trolling motor mount in the front, but I've sized the gunwale flat area up front that may be just wide enough for the base. Anybody else installed a bow mount trolling motor on this hull? I'd really appreciate any input before I drill or buy anything. In this fashion, it would be out of the way during duck hunting and maybe usable for retrieving decoys, when I'm in fairly clean water, as well as get me back most of the way if the main motor fails, though I'd drain the battery. My main use right now is freshwater bass fishing and it will help greatly.

Da quick disconnect is a good idea. I've always left mine on durin da season. I can't let go a da fact dat if my main motor quits I ain't got a back up.

I know its a motorguide but minn kota makes a nice quick release mount out of starboard with the small peice that mounts to the boat and the larger peice on the trolling motor. You can also put a small lock on them to deter from theft.
