 newbie questions
im looking into buying my first long tail... with that being said im looking at putting a 23hp godevil on a 14ft boat. before doing this is that to much motor for that size boat?

Absolutely not. You ought to be damn near unstoppable in that thing in skinny water and timber with stumps.
How wide is the boat?

I run a 16hp on a 1436 and wish I would have gone bigger at times

I used to run a 1436 with a 24 Honda and I really liked it. The only think is I had to put battery and tank In the front bc me and the motor n the back pushed water. So once I did that it ran real well. I then moved all that back n the back and put trim tabs on it (angle iron) and it was a great Lil combo

I'm running a 35 hp longtail on a 15ft commercial hull. I think you will be happy with that setup.
