 Perfect layout boat longtail
I cant really call this a mudmotor but it will go thru grass and such. It was a blast to build and fun to drive. I was getting 5.2 mph til the prop lost it's bite due to rpms but have since gone to a larger prop. Hopefully get a vid and a new top speed this weekend. Weighs 20lbs gased up. Not to chabby for a 52cc 2 stroke!

Is that an otter final attack boat? Those are nice. I want an otter phantom.

You can look hard at this one and see it a little.

 Re: Perfect layout boat longtail
Brushcutter setup is like a bigger weed eater, obviously. Here's a link to a forum where they're discussing building them from weed eaters/brushcutters. I read a lot of it a while back. Doesn't look that hard and could be done relatively inexpensively with stuff you can get at the hardware store. They started trying to do it with weede eater motors, but they didn't have enought power. Some of the guys on here have taken it to extremes with gear reducers, etc. it may seem silly at first, but you gotta remember that they aren't trying to replace a true mud motor-they're trying to replace a paddle, a push pole, or an electric trolling motor, because those are the alternatives for a layout: http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/diy-ma ... -1681.htmlIf you get a few pages into it, a guy actually posts a parts list, but I don't think there are "plans" per se.

 Re: Perfect layout boat longtail
I have a set of plans with parts list and you're correct, they arent designed to take the place of a mud motor. I think I have a max of $300 into it. I tired a 31 cc rioybi but it didnt have enough power. This 52cc does much better. Like I posted with a Youngs t-10 prop I got 5.2 out of it before it lost bite due to rpm and now I have a youngs T-1 , a much bigger prop. It should put me over 8 mpg and thats not too bad I think. I'll find out this weekend.

 Re: Perfect layout boat longtail
I wouldn't mind if it only moved me a steady 2-3 mph-beats the shlt outta paddling! Good luck. I'm interested to see what you get. Let us know.

 Re: Perfect layout boat longtail
Well I did some more testing. With me and 100 lb lab we did 7.9 mph steady. Empty by myself I got just a hair over 9mph, 9.3 to be exact. Since the lab wont be hunting out of this boat I can safely say that I will get 8mph with my usual hunting load. All for under $300 and all brand new. I dont think I can beat that. Cia
