 Re: hull size
I love my 1648 but a lot of guys go a bit more narrow I'm sure anything in the 1644-1844 range would run well. I ran my same motor on a 2044 for a couple of years and it pushed it really well. FYI I run all riveted boats so they are pretty light.

 Re: hull size
Also found a nice duracraft 17/ 48 16 transom but I think it maybe too wide to get much out of my motor

 Re: hull size
I'm not familiar with duracraft but I think 1748 is a great size for the 23

 Re: hull size
I ran a 1748 with mb 23 and it worked well. Not a speed demon but got around 22 or so with it.

 Re: hull size
Guy at work said he runs his on a 14/36 alumaweld he said it would be all I would ever need ..... Yea probably easy to get unstuck but it would have to be squirrelly at times

 Re: hull size
1644 with 20" sides would be my hull of choice with a 23 longtail.

 Re: hull size
I'd personally go 1844 so you can put a surface drive on it later if you want. It will perform comparably to the 1644.

 Re: hull size
18 x 38 Godevil hull with that 23 hp longtail is one of the best combo's I know when it comes to longtail motors.

 Re: hull size
My 17.5x38 gator trax is a great combo with my 24 hp longtail. Pushes a load pretty decent because I can level it out front to back easier than a shorter boat and can truck right through mud

 Re: hull size
I must agree with 4Cody4, get an 18' hull! Since I have morphed from a 1436-1544-1648 and now have a hankering for a 1848 w/35 LT, common sense dictates that while the 18' is a bit underpowered with the 23 HP, it will run true and you need only add more horses and things will improve quickly! You will ride more comfortably, safely since you'll have way more carrying capacity, and the displacement factor will be in your favor. Since you are in soft tidal marshes and not bumping cypress knees or beaver dams, etc., you should get a "light" 18' hull, meaning possibly out of .100 gauge and I believe Alweld can make one for you in most configurations. Not sure if they can make a true flat bottom, maybe only ribbed, but your tidal marsh may warrant the characteristics of the ribbed bottom versus flat....you can offset some of the crimp's drag with gatorglide or steelflex.

 Re: hull size
been asking myself the same question. i have a 23hp backh20 and the 1542 lowe mod v that i have just isnt cutting it. thiking im goin to go with a shallow water customs boat. but cant decide on size. been thinking 16x44 but after reading this should i just go 17? what will the speed difference be? will i be happier? and i know it will tow a load better but just wanna know all the details.
