Post Backwaterinc Transom height
Ok guys. Looking at having a new boat built. Want to have the transom built to where I can put a SD on there if I want to later. I've got the 35 swomp on my 16" transom now and it does great. I was thinking of having the transom built to GTR specs which I think is 20" at 20 degrees. How many of you with the swomp motors are running on a 20" transom? I don't want to lose any performance from my motor. I asked the builder how hard it would be to build up the transom at a later date if need be and he told me it would be easier to just build it to 20" and cut it down to 16" and save the cut piece. Almost make it a convertible transom I guess. I guess if be ok with that but I don't know if I could still swing the motor around into the boat with the 4" height difference. What is y'all's opinion on this"

If you run a 20" transom, buy an LS SWOMP. If it's a 16", get an SS SWOMP.

I understand that's what they advertise on their website, but something doesn't sit right with me about running a longtail on a tall transom. Probably from running go devil. I have my 35 ls swomp on a short transom now, I wanted to keep it short but be able to have the option to put a tall transom surface drive on the new boat I'm having built. I asked if he could build the transom up later. He said it would be easiest to build it tall now and cut it down to 16" in the middle for the longtail. I wasn't sure if I could still swing the longtail around with that height difference. Sure enough I figured out 3" is about max height it can still swing around with. I like the angle better for performance with the short transom which is why I want to stick with it.
