 PPF Wood Duck
Got the PPF Wood duck put together and installed on my MoMarsh Fatboy DP this weekend. Tested it out and was really impressed. First time to ever run a longtail so it was a learning curve for me. Deep water speed was a respectful 18 mph but there was a LOT of vibration at the handle. I expected that as the engine is not mounted to anything but a pin holding it to the transom mount. I didn't buy the engine for running this little lay out boat across the lake. I bought it to get to places that my other mud boat won't go.
So the next test was in the nastiest conglomeration of saw grass and matted vegies that I could find. The MoMarsh has G2 GatorGlide on the hull. I entered the forest of saw grass and matted stuff and the guys with me in another boat said I disappeared. They only knew where I was from the sound of the engine. This little longtail will absolutely push you through the worst of stuff. I found as long as I could keep the prop submerged, it would push me forward. The water depth was a little over my ankle and I had no problem. Plenty of power.
The 6.5 hp Predator engine was stock and after servicing it with oil and gas, it fired up on the very first pull.
Plan is to put this little rig into my larger boat for transport. I'll unload it and install the longtail, that only ways 57 pounds, then get to places unknown or unobtainable before.
Love this little longtail.

Nice review, I really can't wait to build my layout after the season.

 Re: PPF Wood Duck
No load other than my fat ass.....270lbs. Heck, not much room in there for much else. I used to sit back at the rear when it had a trolling motor mounted on the transom. to shift the weight, I turned my transom around and cut it down a bit to reduce the engine height and lower the center of gravity. All of that shoved me up to about the center of the boat. As strong as the little engine is, I don't see much loss of performance with just adding a battery, couple dozen dekes, gun and shells, dog. The power band is on the low end of the curve. I think it will do just fine. This is not a rig I would want to drive out in the open deep water, just in the creeks and backwater crap I like to hunt.
