I recently purchased a 15ft Grumman Jon boat. I'm in the middle of rebuilding and beefing up the transom. Owner before never thru bolted the kicker motor and every time the motor would torque it would work that transom back n forth. Also the wood was rotten. I've always ran my airboat and had a Jon boat with a kicker motor but never a mud motor. I would like something to shit n git. Going to measure the transom tomorrow but I'm sure it around a 16". Also will measure the width but as well I'm sure it's a 48". What would be a good longtail to look into. Hp? Wise. Also I have a brand new in the box 22hp predator that we have at the shop. Was thinking why not get an sps or whatever. What's y'all input. I run the river n grass flats a lot.

I had time today to take the measurements and the transom is 16" and the bottom width is 42". Was is a good hp match from y'all's experiance. As I stated before I do have a predator 22hp at the shop just sitting there. Thanks again

Kcpanages also I'm rebuilding my transom now. Would help any to set the motor back with a jack plate made out of angle or just go ahead and replace the wood and beef up the transom?

Rebuild the transom. A jack plate isn't going to help anything. Like said backwaters transom mount has adjustments on it for different transoms and heights. They also offer their versa mount if the standard one won't work on you boat I think the versa mount works from 12*-16*.

Another vote for the Backwater kit. I run a 23 Backwater Swomp on a 1448 and it's about perfect.

get a swamp runner. cheap reliable, just as fast as the backwater, and easy as crap to work on. i have a small kit with a predator 212 on my alumacraft 1436 and i get 17-15 with two people and some gear(stage 1 upgrades.) my point is, just because there outstandingly cheaper doesnt make them bad. most people on here hate them(IDK why) but there the best for the money. hope this helps.

Get a hot dipped Backwater.

It gets in there but it's not bad. I just clear it out after I'm done riding. I lost the little rubber deal that they send with it that would normally keep most of the grass out.

Yea it's just a short piece of rubber tubing. I cut a piece and replaced it but wasn't happy with how big it was so I left it off. Like I said, the grass that gets in is minimal. I use to get way more grass wrapped around the shaft of my GD. That doesn't happen on these motors.
