7hp long tail on 11'6" john boat suggestions please
Ok I know I've posted this already a few times but I still am skeptical before I start this build. I have a 11'6" sears john boat that has a bottom width of 31" I was looking to put a 7hp stump jumper on to use to get around kissimee and okeechobee to hunt deer and hogs and maybe get in to duck hunting. I'm new to the mud motors so any suggestions or recommendations would be very helpful thanks guys.

It will work , but will be very tippie with a width of 32 inch's . So be very careful . I will say a longtail mud motor is nice , but respect the torque and power . I wouldn't say I was a rookie after three years running a longtail on a 1236 for three years . I was out scouting a couple of months ago and I consider myself lucky because I was back at the ramp almost when I was making a turn and gave it too much gas . That bitch flipped me and that boat . If that would have happen in the swamp lake , I've been screwed and would have been spending the nite out there . So becareful dude .

I suggest going with a bigger boat, granted my rig is a 1436 with a 16hp and wish I would have held out for something longer like 16'... Anyways I can safely run another guy and a hunting load in the boat, after that it gets iffy...I would think you put a decent deer in the boat with you and its gonna get hairy fast...

Re: 7hp long tail on 11'6" john boat suggestions please
I thought about getting a 14' john boat but I just wanted to try what I had first and i really like that I can slide my rig in the bed of my truck with no trailer to worry about. I guess worse case I can try it and always find a used 14' if I want to upgrade. Thanks for the input.

get a swamp runner small kit with a predator 212, that way if you want a 1436 u can just mod the motor a little bit and bam, ur cruising at the same speed of a 1232 with no mods

My 1236 with a 6hp can get sketchy at times. It's a truck bed boat too, just don't gas'r hard on a slow turn.
