 Cutting transom
Iv got a welder that can weld aluminum so I thought about modifying my boat. Iv got a 1752 flattbottom with 27 mudbuddy longtail siting on a 23 inch transom. It pushes around 15-16 with 2 people but fights like hell to keep in water . If I adjusted trailering edge it goes around 14 but isn't as hard to keep in water . What would yall do cut and lower

 Re: Cutting transom
23??? That is like a super transom? "Low" is 15-16 and "tall" is usually 20
You can def cut it down but strength of it will depend how far the main bulk of it extends

 Re: Cutting transom
Yep guy I bought it off of fished ms river and I think had a 90 hp jet on it it's nice it's that high bc no water swamps in if you let off but n is like little better performance. Iv got the thick hull aluminum so it's a real heavy boat anyway . I'm just trying to figure if it's worth cutting or just leaving it alone I love the boat hat to go hacking on it to only gain 1-2 hp. What yall think

 Re: Cutting transom
Looks like a 2" piece of tubing was added.
Should be able to cut it off and use the existing gussets.
But if you want to cut it down to a short transom I would leave the gussets where they are and taper down to a 8" or so wide spot where your motor mounts and brace accordingly.
And when you cut it down your motor is probably not going to swing back in the boat.

 Re: Cutting transom
If it was mine I wouldn't cut it. I like a tall transom. I would change the angle of the cavitation plate so that the trim tab would not be needed. I found on my MB the tab caused a lot of drag. The cavitation plate kit from Backwater would work good too.
Nice looking boat.

 Re: Cutting transom
Thanks .... I got looki ng today and the guy I bought it from built the transom up from a 20 in to a 22 1/3 inch transom . But when he did it one side it higher than the other the the transom is not level from one side to the other . So now I'm contemplating cutting it down to a 20 inch that way it's all level and I should be able to adjust it better than I can currently . But it seems like a whole Lotta work especially if it won't make a difference between 22 vs 20 inches . But I'm thinking il get better performance if it's level across the transom in stead of one side being slightly higher .?
