Post How do You Haul your Longtail?
I just got a new GD 18hp longtail. I ordered it with the swivel bracket, but the way my transom cuts down and then back up, then motor hits when I try to pivot it, and it wont work.

Sooooo......I'm out the $75 and I have to figure out a way to haul it down the road as it is. Whats the best way you've figured out to tie the handle, etc to keep it from going up and down and side to side?

Much thanks.

Short transom and tall sides dont work well with a swivel bracket..

LIke the other thread shows will work, or depending on your floor lay out get some fold away tie downs.. Mount them to the floor of your boat and hook the ratchet strap to them..

Link to what i talking bout.. http://www.etrailer.com/c-TIE.htm

you can get them at Lowes or other hardware stores...

Go to the auto parts store and buy a 20 dollar bolt on reciever hitch tube bolt it to the back of you trailer and build you a support brace you can slide in and out just by unpinning it.

I have this one for sale, but you can see the built in transome saver that keeps the motor from side to side while traveling. All you do is remove two pins and it comes off. Easy Breezy.

You can go to my profile and click on 14ft Jon w/ 23 hp gdlt post. There are pictured of my trailer and boat there. My trailer is longer the my boat but it's the same concept I'm gonna do my new boat like that when I getbit on this trailer.

Post Re: How do You Haul your Longtail?
the problem i have with mine is that when i have the prop inside the boat and tied down (with a ratchet strap connected to trailer and wrappaed around shaft), the shaft still moves up and down and beats the hell outa my hull. i try to keep a paddle or something under it so the skeg hits that instead of the hull.

you should be able to get the shaft parallel to the transom, then lean the motor back(to outside of boat), and carefully get the shaft on the inside. unless theres a lot of difference in height

That's the same as I have. An eye bolt in the cross member. I built a vee stand out of treated landscape timber. I put the handle of the mm in the vee, bungie it down and then wrap a heavy duty strap around the handle then attach both ends of the strap to two eye bolts on my trailer.

I put some black plastic pipe split in half over my gunnel tubes so I don't rub the damn paint off all the time. I took me a couple of years repaintin it to finally figure out a way to keep that from happenin. :x
