Post Gator Hide and a Longtail
So i'm rebuilding my blind to a low profile blind like a Gator Hide or a Phowler 2-1 on my 1448. My concern is if anyone has had issues with swinging in a longtail into the boat with a blind style like them. I am doing the blind this year and picking up a Backwater 23 or 26 next summer. I would do it all this fall but I was persuaded into getting married this New Years Eve so the extra funds are going to that money pit!!! Insane how much weddings are. Put the word wedding in front of something and all of a sudden the price doubles!!

Anyway before I build the blind I want to know if there is anything I need to plan for.

Thanks
Corey

Plan for not getting the backwater next summer. The wedding might be expensive to you, but it only goes up from there. Get all the stuff you want before you get married. After, it may be quite a few years before it "makes sense" to get that stuff. :D Lol

Seriously, though, since you're rebuilding it yourself, just make sure you account for getting the motor spun around, and you'll be fine. If you were buying pre-built, you don't always have the freedom to do it your way.

haha to true.

Ya I was thinking I would fabricate the blind so the tail sits in a cockpit and have some eyebolts or something to strap it down with.

Any advise on other items I should consider?

If you have the skills/tools build your own and put cash towards a different hull. I had a 1448 with a backwater kit and it was no faster than my current 18x50 custom hull. That was with a 24 hp honda motor. If I had it to do over I would buy a boat first, then a blind, then a mud motor. 17x40-44 for a long tail or 16x48-50 is a good size if you want to keep motor and blind options open.

Good luck with the choice and wedding.
