 Tiny tach for Kohler 25
Anybody have any problems with these things? Out of wAter WOT reads good around 3800-4000. WOT in the water is reading up to 5500. I know this can't be right. Tried messing with settings but can't seem to tweak it right. Any tips appreciated. Thanks

How many wraps do you have the tach wire wrapped on the spark plug wire?
Also, make sure your spark plug wire isn't arching to your engine.

Re: Tiny tach for Kohler 25
I have one wrap on the wire and cut the excess off. The guy at tiny tach told me to do it. With one wrap it definitely helped and I got solid rpm readings. Adjusted to 1200 out of wTer idle and 3800 WOT. Left it there didn't touch a thing came back next morning fired engine up and the Rpms were reading 1600 idle and up past 5000 WOT. I'm thinking maybe I got a bad tach or something

I had always understood to wrap it at least 4 times or so around the coil/sparkplug wire.

4-5 wraps, tightly, then electrical tape to hold the wraps.

Re: Tiny tach for Kohler 25
Is it a "Tiny Tach" brand. I had some cheap no-name tachs that were not accurate at all and failed quickly. I also agree with the 4-5 wraps around the wire.

Re: Tiny tach for Kohler 25
Yea it's a tiny tach tt2a. I had 3-4 wraps on it to begin with and couldn't get a steady read out. Ended up calling tiny tach and he said to wrap it one time and cut excess. I'm gonna give them a call again cause now I have a short ass red wire that I can only wrap once and still no good read out. Maybe they'll send me another one maybe not. Oh well. My fault anyways for cutting it that short probably. Worse comes to worse I'll have to get another one and start from scratch
The weird thing is I started playin with it before I cut it and the steadiest read out I got was when I was barely touching it to the spark plug wire with the ground disconnected. When I wrapped it back up 4 times it was sayin I was at like 5000 rpm WOT. I know it wouldn't go up that high I reckon it would be screaming. It's a Kohler 25.
