Always stand. So I can bail if needed and avoid getting destroyed by the handle when I hit hard stuff. I run shallow hard bottom on Big-O a lot.

First of all, whether sitting or standing, I always wear my kill switch lanyard ( also good to check it works  ). Over deeper open water I tend to sit, don't want to go overboard and less a need to see....in the marsh mostly stand, kind of to avoid was posted already, but more importantly to see and ward off any possible collisions (other mud motors or airboats), and I also raise an orange flag up high (required by local regs). Don't have a grab bar, except the cooler up front for after the hunt, but I leave open space in front of me and a couple of cushions to soften the impact. :geek:

All joking aside, you should not leave the ramp without all the safety gear, and the kill switch is cheap and will save your life, but that also means wearing a pfd, which I do, even though it is mostly shallow water, does not take much to drown. We are our own worst enemy- it was a speeding bass boat that almost severed my boat and me a few years ago- with more horses and devil may care attitudes that is a recipe for tragedy. I've reached a "plateau" of speed that is more than sufficient, but I damn well respect the marsh with its gators and pythons and saw grass. Getting there and back safely is my top priority, and if I get some ducks, another blessing.

I am a fan of standing Willie. I custom made a tiller for stand up operating. It gives me more control to have more of my body to move the tiller around.
