Post New to all of this. Got a couple general questions.
I have a Gheenoe 15'4 thats in good shape and i am gettin tired of using a trolling motor to get around. I live in Virginia and have a couple duck hunting spots from saltwater creeks to small rivers. I have a perfect running honda 8hp gx240. I am probably going to order a mud motor long tail kit for this engine. I habe removed the governor and put better valvesprings, carb rejetted, header, and aircleaner etc............ which long tail kit would yall reccomend and prop size? Its mostly shallow water and noy as much mud running. I am a welder, mechanic, machinist so doing alterations to an existimg kit is no problem. I dont really have the time to make a complete kit. Tha thank you for your patience with a newbie.

Antitactical. I too recently jumped into the longtail world myself with a Mudskipper longtail "deluxe"(spare shaft bushings, propellers(2), prop nut, throttle cable) kit. There are a few other longtail kit companies out there, but the customer service at Mudskipper is unparalleled. Plus they sell a few mods for your Honda. Did you have a header pipe? I saw your motor was tricked pretty good. Definitely look at what features you are looking for, but I am overly satisfied with my Mudskipper and 420cc predator engine which is a Honda 390cc clone. But one thing I can say, these longtails handle WAY DIFFERENT than any outboard you have used. So be prepared for a learning curve my brother. Plus with a cheaper kit, if you don't like it, you don't have a ton into it. And if you like it, as in my case, you came out on top. And then there is the satisfaction of knowing you did it yourself. It makes your rig personalized. Also deluxe kit has kill switch and safety lanyard.

Look real close at the difference between Swamp Runner and Mudskipper. Call them both, see what you think. Don't forget to look at Backwater's kits, people on here seem to really like them.

I run a Predator 212 on a kit from Swamp Runner on several different little boats and have run it on a freighter canoe. I love it! The only thing I don't like about little rig is it doesn't have a something to keep the trail from falling vertical or the bottom, whichever is closer. My Go Devil long tail had a stop to keep the tail from falling past a certain point. I just need to set up a a better loop to throw over the tiller more conveniently. Not sure if the Backwater kids have a stop or not.

Whatever you choose will be better than the trolling motor, let us know what you get and how you like it!

Your budget will also give you an idea what longtail kit or company will suit you, since you already have that modded engine. Sometimes that Poulan chainsaw cuts just as good as the Stihl chainsaw. For quite a few dollars less. Keep us posted on how things go man. Hope you end up as satisfied with whatever you choose, as I am with my rig.
