It does look like a solid motor. The only downfall is having a bearing on the lower end. If you're not on top of maintenance and have a bad seal, which get eaten pretty regularly if not maintained,a bearing in the water will get toasted pretty easily.

Mudbuddy back in the day used a bushing I had several go south. They now use a bearing like most others for a reason.

Was it a bronze bushing? GDs bushing isn't just a regular bronze bushing either. They are made to circulate grease and not get too hot. If a bearing craps out you are screwed. I could run all day long without a bottom seal and still make it home.

Mayhem, you obviously have not done your research on Back Water. My Back Water gets 2-3 squirts of grease every THIRTY HOURS. The bearings and seals are self contained and the frame doesn't actually need ANY grease. The only true purpose of the grease is to act as a suspension agent and keep from having driveshaft slap inside the housing. And a frame that is made from plate and flat bar is never going to be as stout as a comparable frame made from DOM. That's why NASCAR builds tubular frames and not frames from plate and flat bar. And finally, why do you say the customer service out west sucks? What experience are you speaking from?

And Back Water can use a bearing in the bottom end because of the Revo Clean system. You can take A thin piece of wire and TRY YOUR BEST to get that wire into the seal/bearing but it just won't happen. The tolerances are too tight. And the Revo Clean constantly pushes grass, fishing line, or whatever else away from the bearing/seal housing. They got thousands of hours of testing into these motors and haven't had a single seal just flat out fail.

Man if your happy with your motor, that's great. Seriously. But if you try to tell me your motor is better than mine, you're legitimately out of your mind. Just check out that sick adjustable cavitation plate you've got man!

There's no doubt DOM is stronger than flatbar in some cases. One thing that has to be looked at is how forces are applied also. Just because something looks beefier that isn't always necessarily the case. E.g. Take a 3/4" DOM tubing and 3/4" flatbar on edge and apply force in the center until failure. Then try on the wide side if the flatbar. This is why it's used in roll cages and such. Which one failed first when the flatbar was on edge, though?

Anyhow, school me on what happens if the bearing fails when out in the field.

I'm well aware of what happens when a bearing goes down. I've had it happen to me on my old GDLT. I'm not worried about that in my Back Water. I know I'm dealing with superior components now because I've owned both brands.

As long as the seal doesn't have a problem the bearing should be ok. I'm not willing to take that chance even though I give everything a look over before I head out. Even if mine is consuming grease I'm going hunting if I don't have time to fix it. I'm still wondering why a bearing is still superior a little less friction? Wow.

Bushings don't have catastrophic failures, bearings do. You will generally know when your bushing gets worn.
Bushings also take impact better due to larger surface area.
As long as you have a little lube your coming home with the bushing.
Bearings have less drag and are more efficient and I think you can affectively seal ball bearings.
BW stacks several bearings to increase and share load which I think is necessary when using ball bearings.
For me it remains to be seen if the ball bearings can hold up over time in the stumpy swamps. Should be easy to change in a BW though.

The same pic that Mayhem73 posted of his motor being built is the same pic that Mayhem Mud Motors posted on Facebook. And according to them, the motor is being built for PROSTAFFER Jared Brown. So Mayhem73 is a prostaffer. No wonder he's pushing these motors.

So you claim not to be a troll, you have brought up what appears to be a sub par company that I'm not sure any of us have even heard of until you show up, and you are prostaff.... Which means, yes, you are a troll! Get over it.
