I just purchased a 1644 GD Boat and a 06 27 Kohler Beavertail motor. I am running about 15 MPH, but my RPMS are only sitting under 3400(in the water). I have tried ajusting the govner screw but it doesnt not affect it. . Is this normal or should I be running above. Also, the prop, seals, and bearings are new.

i have read on here that about 3500 in the water is about where you wana be. but i have the 25hp i dont know what im running but it may be a lil different for your 27hp.

did u get this boat off louisiana sportsman??

Did you possibly get a prop a lil bigger or more pitch when you bought a new one? Is the boat running any different? If its running fine, I'd leave it alone. What are your rpms out of water? When my 27pd was stock, it turned the stock prop around 3700. I would guess it should be about the same on the LT but not certain.

Yes, I got the boat off of Louisiana Sportsman. It is a 9x7 prop. RPM out of the water now is around 4100. After doing some tinkering I think the previous owner had let the throttle all the way when stoaring and one of the springs is alittle lose. I tightened it and I was getting a lot better response from the govner and better throttle RPM. I am going to go run it today and see if it is better.

From what I understand your in the water rpms should be about 3700 rpms. My runs about there or slightly below or above depending on load etc.

Sorry for the wait. Over the past week I changed the oil, oil filter, painted the boat, added a spotlight kit, and the went a ran it for two threw some pretty bad stuff. Motor ran really good! Ill uploaded some pics tommorow

Here are some pics. If you look on one of the pics the upper bearing has some greese on it. I was told that the seals and bearings were replaced at 50 hours. The motor now has 100 hours on it. Is it common for the upper bearing to leak greese or do I need to replace the seals again or should I be worried about something?

That is common. However, if you fond it consumes a lot of grease you should check lower and upper bushings/bearings.

i have the exact same motor. well its for sale right now but i have been running it for a while. im not sure on rpm but on a 1648 flat bottom im running 17.5-19.5 with 2 ppl and lil gear. there is a lil trick to go a lil faster that i have found. i can send you some pics by e mail so i can try to explain it if you want me to. its kind of a jury rig but i got 3-4 mph out of it and its very simple

Ok to the few that replied to me I will take some pictures and try to get it sent to you in about 3 or 4 days.(next time i have computer access) like i said its kinda rigged but it works. it basically rust lets you run higher rpms.

Ok i didnt have time to take pictures before i sold my motor so im going to try to explain this. Is so easy its horrible!!! lol anyhow if you look at the motor up by where the throttle cable is connected on top of the motor there is a little bar that sticks out under everything. it has a spring and i assume it is part of the gov. or something. anyhow i took a piece of about 16" 12/2 romex and pulled 1 strand out (black) and bent the end over about 1 inch from the end and hooked it through whatever hole was open at the end of that lil bar (the one the spring aint going through). then i ran it to the starboard (right) side of the boat through that motor lifting ring (hole) looking thing and just let the wire stick out. when im was in the water running full speed with the motor id reach back there and pull that wire and just bent it over so it would hold and valla it went faster. i know someone will say that you souldnt do it for some dam* reason but im here to tell you i ran mine like that from the time i got it and never had a bit of problems. now if your out of water it makes the motor rev too high but as long as your running with the prop in the water then you wont have any problems at all. i had a 1971 lowe 1648 boat and that little motor went 15 mph with 2 guys before and 19 after i did this so its up to you. if you have anymore questions let me know

What you did was over ride the gov. spring. LOL That's fine if your motor will hold together. I've always figured that the companies building the motors probably went on the safe side when it comes to rpms and gov. settings.

I used to have an old racing style go cart that sat about 1 1/2" from the road. It had a two man 6 1/2 HP chain saw engine my dad got from an auction. SO he comes home with the beast I used to call it! Took us a couple of nights after work and school to get her mounted on there right.

When I was out of site I would reach back with my right hand and over ride the gov. on that old chain saw motor.......... and hang on............. steering with my left hand. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeee haaaaaaaaaaaaa No dang helmet no roll bars nothin but loud straight pipe chain saw motor screamin to what seemed like 10,000 rpms. :shock: What a ride that was.......... he!! I haven't thought about that old cart for 20 years i'll bet. Must be gettin older.

above 3750, with just one person around 4000, I keep always under 4000. With full load of 4 people I run around 3300. With 2 people around 3750.
