 Slick Bottom better than Ribbed
I have a 1544MV Alumacraft with a 23hp LT and im having trouble getting the boat to plane out. It just seems like its pushing the water outta its way. I just wonder how much better the slick bottom is than the ribbed bottom boats. Has any one ran both types? I would like to hear your opinions. All input would be appriciated.

Re: Slick Bottom better than Ribbed
How much of a load in the boat? Whats the transom height? Angle?
The slick bottom pays for itself in the shallows, not when planing out.

Re: Slick Bottom better than Ribbed
what condition is the bottom in? is it beat up and dented especially in the last few feet up to the transom, that can affect it. Also what condition is the prop in it may be time for a new one. A slick bottom would help but length is also a factor a 16-48 or 17-44 could perform better, especially when carring a load. Hope this helps.

Re: Slick Bottom better than Ribbed
I have a 35# Thrust trolling motor on the front with a gelcell battery. 3 Gallon gas tank, 12 volt battery, and myself (175lbs) in the back. Im not real sure about the transom hight or the angle. I would like to have a godevil boat but my funds arent that great. I was thinking about welding a solid sheet of alluminum on the bottom to make it slick, but im not sure if the benifits would be worth the trouble. Has any one ever done this? The bottom is a little beat up but i have seen worse.

Re: Slick Bottom better than Ribbed
wouldnt do it the added wieght will kill it for little gain if any. I would save up for gd boat. I think the rake and transom angle have alot more to do with it. I currently am running a 16 hp lt and feel the pain.

Re: Slick Bottom better than Ribbed
I checked my transom and it is 16" and 16ยบ. Guess I will have to live with it plowing through the water.

Re: Slick Bottom better than Ribbed
I was running 18 to 20 mph on a GD 16 48 with the 23 GD LT.... 18mph 2 guys and 20mph solo... The GD 16 44 was 3mph slower but plowed veggies better...
Prop is the critical factor - the GD 9x6 was the best all around prop for me...
