Post Go-Devil vs Stump-Jumper
Hunting areas: Missouri River in MT and various MT shallow ponds and small lakes/marshes

Boat: 14X36 Jon, wt limit 605#

Load: two guys totaling 450, 1 dog 55#, some deks, guns, ammo, etc. Will be plenty happy with top speed 5-8 mph

Options under consideration:

A) 9 Hp Honda Go-Devil weighing 140# with 72" shaft ~$2100 new, may be able to get one used for $1000

B) 7 Hp Subaru-Robin Stump-Jumper weighing 63# with 55" shaft ~ $1700 new

I did see a previous thread about a 9 Hp Go-Devil on a 14X36. I doubt anyone out there will have actually had each of these for direct comparison, but am looking for subjective reviews on the pros or cons of either of these motors, for the specified type of use.

Side question, is there a forum search function?

I have a 8hp go devil from the late 70's to early 80's still has the factory prop on it and it will haul me 200# and my dad 280# and 6 dozen decoys around in the timber of north mississippi at 7 to 8 mph just fine and when we get in the marsh mud we go faster then that with it biting under load i would go with the go devil if it were me

I would go wit Go-Devil because they have been around for a long time and have really good customer service. Not to mentioon it is 2 hp larger.

Side answer, yes der is a search function. It is da button labeled "search" at da top of da page. If you learn to use it correctly you will automaticaly become smarter than 75% of all da members on dis site.

I had a 9.5 go devil on a 14' boat, It always worked... except once. I never got stuck. I wish I still had it. I could get on plane with gear but with another guy it was subplane. Still averaged running speed though.

Ah, so it is. I was looking up and down the page for a box to type a word in with the word search by it. I guess I just never looked in that top row. My bad.

Got the GDLT. Was doing inspection and maintenance last weekend. Upper bearing , even after greasing, runs too hot to handle after just a few minutes run time. Is this common? I emailed the factory, but have not heard back yet.

They are "old school" - call them - you need your frame SN when you call...

They will get you what you need ASAP...

Good idea to buy their grease too - not all grease will perform properly
in those shafts....

Called 'em today, and indeed, they say as long as it is not so hot as to be burning the paint on the housing, it is o.k.
