I have a 25 Kohler LT. Has 22 hours on it, and it tends to back fire when I am slowing down, or idling after a long run.... What would be causing this?? |

Make sure your valves are set correctly. |

The valves on the kohler should not need adjustments. If you start screwing with them, be carefull. You do not set them like a motor with solid lifters... |

Do you have any additives in the gas? I hear that if you have octane booster or water remover in the fuel it can cause that. also, when was the last tune up? can you tell if its blowing out of the carb or the exhaust? Gee |

There was some fuel stabilizer in the gas tank..... It is blowing a small flame out of the exhaust |

Hmmmmmm, blowing flame out the exhaust, excessive backfiring............ Sounds to me like a very rich mixture. Is the air filter dirty, wet or oiled up? Is the float in the carb set too high? Is the choke open all the way? Are you hitting on both cylinders? Kohlers are good at backfiring, but I've never seen one that was running right blow flame. Good luck and let us know what you find. |
