I had my 1992 16hp gdlt stored in my fathers barn where while unloading bales of hay he pinched my drive shaft housing in between a post crushing a flat spot in it. my question is what is the housing made of? is it just schedule 40-80 pipe or DOM tubing? im gonna try to replace it.

Pretty sure 1-1/2 sch 40 will do the trick. May be schedule 80, not sure.

I'd bet it's CM tubing. take it to a welding shop and theyll tell you
