Post subject:  Best Longtail Boat

Hey 'all I am new here. Hailin from swamp land south georgia.

Never owned a mud motor before, but seen plenty. used to live in louisianna.

I have a honda 20hp gdlt I just bought from a fella who fell on some hard luck, woman trouble and all. Well the motor is darn near new.

My question is, what is the best boat for this motor? I am gonna save some bank roll for a bit, I want a good boat not a yard sale special if y'all know what I mean.

These south georgia swamp lands are alot like lousianna except for the bottom is harder sometimes, and in the fenokee part there is probably more floating vegitation.

Glad to be here with y'all. I ain't much into bird huntin, but I like to fish and explore. Already got sights on a gator tag or two next year.

Also I got three younguns 10,7 and 5. i'll be more than likely to be haulin em around with me alot of the time. plus my dog 40lbs. and maybe the woman she is about 130lbs. and sometimes my buddy he's about 235. I weigh about 215.

I would probably average about three people normally.

What do yall think?

I dont care much about speed, but she ought to be able to get on plane anyway.

I have had several LT's from 16hp-35hp on several different boats all GD boats. The boat length will not effect you as much as the width, I would stay between 36" and 44" on a 16 to 18 foot boat that was built for a LT. I run a 18'X44" GD hull and 35LT and get 22mph same hull with a 24hp run about 17mph.

Running 16x36GD pushed 23hpGDLT w/9x7prop
Empty - 14MPH
Loaded - 12MPH

But....I am bottom heavy. Thinking the flotation in the floor is retaining water. Will be taking the floor out during the duck split.

Boat when new would run 18MPH (or more) empty. At least that is what I have been told...

18x38 GD boat with 27 Kohler longtail-18/19 with 1 man,dog and hunting load,14/15 with 3 men,dog and full hunting load.Seems to pick up a little in shallow water but its probably not enough to amount to much.

first post guys... I have a 13hp beavertail LT on a 1548 semi v... i can get 13 mph out of it with just me..... 8-11 mph with 2 hunters and gear.

I am running just a lil faster than the speed of smell, but I do love my longtail. hoping to upgrade to a 35 LT next February.

i'm a commercial crawfisherman and always have a load in the boat. i have had plenty of go-devils i would recomend you get a 18-20 ft boat that is 42-46 inches wide i find that length plays a big deal in go-devils
