which would you choose and why?
I just recently jumped into the mud motor world by buying a go-devil 16 horse longtail. I can't believe the torque! anyhow the 16hp vanguard can only get my 1652 up on a sub plane so I am going to switch out the engine. I have both a 23 vanguard, and a Kohler 25. I know I will have to replace the top yoke with the kohler, but it seems beefier.
Which motor would you use? According to Go-Devils parts picture my frame will accommodate both engines.
I wish I had bought one of these engines years ago! I just feel more confident in the marsh with it back there.

Re: which would you choose and why?
I used to have a 27hp longtail Kholer on a 16ft boat that was wide like yours. If you are looking for speed long and narrow is key with a longtail. When I spoke with the people at Go Devil they say wide boats for the surface drive and narrow for the longtail. They recommend the boats be at least 16ft to help the boat get on plane. my boat was pretty slow, but i have seen longtails that are pretty fast on a narrow long boat.
