Hi, I was wondering if anyone here has used the scavenger motors before?

I like the design of them, and was looking for some feedback on them.

I'm considering getting a small one for my 1236 jon, for hunting ome shallow waters, with lots of lillypads, sunken logs etc. Not really gonna be running through mud with it.

I would not encourage buying a Scavenger. I have one of these and to put it nicely, i don't like it. That thing they call a prop binds up with weeds very bad and if you're going through lilly pads you'll spend more time "unclogging" your prop than you will driving your boat. And that belt drive is rediculous. Seemed like every time i took it out i had to adjust the belts. Don't even get me started on the skeg, cavitation plate and handle on this thing. Oh yeah, if you want an aftermarket prop good luck. Since its a right hand spin you cant just go to Hopkins and get, unless you want to pay out the nose for one. I dislike my Scavenger so much I am currently converting it to direct drive left hand with a THREADED shaft. Pretty much getting rid of everything except the 13HP Van, that was the only thing good about the motor.

Oh yeah, if you want a good inexpensive motor go with a 6.5 go devil. A friend of mine has one of these motors on a 1436 and pushes it pretty darn good, even with 2 people, a dog and gear.

I have run a Scavenger as well. They push quite strong but are definitely not the motor for use in deep water. They are slow as molasses in deep water. They do seem to push a little harder than a small longtail in mud regardless of load in the boat but still slow. I would not recommend. The prop just makes it too slow. For similar money on a small light boat, look at the Copperheads. I will say this for the Scavenger. On a hard bottom, loaded down they probably push better than the others. It was so slow though I quit going hunting because it took an hour boat ride to get to the blind.
