Any of Y'all know what the difference in frames are between a gdlt 16 and a 23lt both briggs. I think the blocks are just about the same. I think the tail units on everything 16hp and up is the same from go devil, they just work the motor mounting a little different. I am considering upgrading my 16hp to 23hp. Looks like it will bolt right up. But it looks like the 31hp has bit more space between the motor bottom and center of the crankshaft. That would cause me to do a little cuttin and weldin. Im'e fixin to have a boat made in the 1744 to 1848 maybe 1854 range and might need some more power. I was gonna run the 16 on these little rivers and buy an outboard for the bigger water. But now maybe ime thinkin i will upgrade the powerplant on the LT and just run it. What do ya'll know about it? a 16 and 23 look to be the same basic block, seem like an easy swap. But would a 23hp be enough, or would a 31-35 be the way to go? I run a mud motor cause I run a hell of alot of submerged brush and flooded timber here in Georgia. Eats up alot of lower units around here. Not alot of mud, sandy bottoms are much more common. |

Look online at the motor manufactures website for specs. The measurements you will need are PTO height-height of center-line of shaft from the base plate or bottom of the engine Bolt circle-this is the circle bolt pattern on the face of the engine, typically engine manufactures group their hp motors with standard specs covering a variety of hp ranges. Mounting bolt pattern-this is the spread of your base plate bolt pattern, it will be measured off center-line of the pto shaft. If you check the two engines you are using and these measurements are the same, you will have no problems swapping out unless your pto shaft size is different in diameter or length. You may be able to by a different u-joint coupler to adjust for this. The biggest difference will probably be weight. Good luck. |
