Mine started just fine the other morning at 15 degrees. You probably have another problem somewhere.

Man, This North Carolina weather is tough on Louisiana boys! Got to the launch this morning and the starter would barely turn the motor over. (23 GDLT) Battery is as hot as a firecracker! I am figuring that the grease in the shaft housing is so cold (it's 22 right now) that it's dragging on the shaft. Burnt the damm solenoid up! Any ideas, gang??? Yesterday, the damm throttle cable frizz up!! Took it off and blew only about 1 drop of water out of it! Guess it don't take much. In the words of John Fogerty "I wish I was back on the bayou!" Sheeeeeit!!!!!! |

Yeah, freezing throttle lines is a very common problem here in Utah. We havent had a high above freezing for the last 2 weeks or so. lol. anywho. the best fix to that problem that I have found is get a compressor with a blow tip on it and a small piece of fuel line just bigger than the throttle tube and hose clamp the fuel line on to the end of the throttle tube and shoot some WD40 down the end, then shoot compressed air down the throttle line and it should blow all the ice and water out of the line and lubricate it with the WD40 at the same time. and I've never heard anything about grease freezing in the shafts of MM's. I dont think thats possible. I have started my boat in -11 and never seen a problem with the grease. I just use the normal "coastal - marine grade grease" that you get at autozone and I've never had a problem. are you sure you had grease in the shaft? maybe get some water in the shaft and it froze to the shaft?? I dunno what to tell ya bout that one bud. good luck. let us know what ya find! |

Must have been a weak solenoid and / or battery. Replaced the solenold and put a slow charge on the battery and it started fine all yesterday and this morning. Now, I need to figure out how to deal with the ICE AT THE LAUNCHING RAMP!!!!  Thought I broke the trailer in half. Broke a tail light, and knocked the trailer guide almost off! Could NOT turn the boat around to leave the ramp. Had to use the skeg like an icepick to get the prop in the water. Then, when trying to push the stern up over the ice, KNOCKED ONE OF THE DAMM DRAIN PLUGS OUT! I was wondering why my feet were getting wet.  Damm near sunk at the ramp IN THE DARK. A tip, when you'r rigging your boat gang... put in a BIG A$$ bilge pump! Double sheeeeeeeeit!

Check for water in the shaft housing. Whats the cold cranking amp of yo battree?? Iv had the same crap happen. Remember, always start yo motor at the house before you leave.. Nothing worse than a motor that wont start.... Well there is something worse.... Being next in line with a jackass blocking the ramp that has a motor that wont start..
