Just removed the motor from a longtail frame i recently got. Here is the problem i have encountered: How do i get this piece off of the shaft? I got the screws removed, but i have no clue on how to get this off without damaging the shaft. I'm also going to need to go and get a whole new u-joint/yoke assembly. I was going to call go-devil and see how much they want, but i am betting it is going to be $$$. Any one have any other alternatives? Any help is appreciated! |

Gd yoke assemblies are not that bad on prices. they sell a split yoke so you wont be in such a bind the next go around. for getting the old one off if you got the motor off and the prop will come off. remove the whole thing and press the shaft out of the yoke. or soak the yoke/shaft in penetrating oil and knock off with a hammer. |

I agree, spray with penetrating oil such as Liquid wrench overnight. Block the prop with a piece of wood and use a pipe wrench on the old yoke to twist it off. Don't put it on the shaft because you may gall it up. Good luck |

don't forget about the set screw. you can also cut the yoke longways with a cutoff wheel on a grinder to help give it some wiggle room. just be careful not to get into the shaft. I'd say put the yoke in a vice, slide a piece of black pipe over the shaft, thread the prop all the way on the shaft, and you've got yourself a slide hammer. edit - you have to remove the shaft from the frame for the slide hammer to work. take the prop off and slide it out of the top end. |

There is a puller that has a collar that you put around the shaft behind the yoke. Then you just screw down a long bolt into the end of the shaft that will pull it right off, I used one this past week it works well. In this area you can borrow them from auto zone or advanced auto parts. Or since you are buying an entirely new assembly you could take a angle grinder and just cut the thing down each side as deep as you can without hitting the shaft then whack it with a hammer and it will crack. |
