Hey guy's i'm new here like a lot MMT !!!!

I was looking at all the topics regarding building my own MudMotor and by reading all the topics I am more motivated to do one. Because where I hunt water levels can change very fast so one week-end I can go in with my 25hp mercury and the week- end after you have to get the motor up and go with the minnkota...... so I am thinking of upgrading and i would like to build one because I live in Quebec, Canada and these motors are expensive like hell !!!!!! So I am thinking about building a shortTail but after reading it looks easier to build a longTail. I have a 1436 Jon Boat and I am aiming for speed. Can someone help me please ????

I checked the plans sold on ebay and maybe if I decide by doing a long tail I will buy them but I would really like to build a short tail....

If ya aiming for speed stay with the outboard,

hes meaning compared to a longtail, unless you buy a 31 like b coonass lol

your hardest thing to do on a surface drive will be the transom brackets.

A mm is a ton heavier than an outboard too.

I have a 2 stroke 25 and a 13 longtail and I can barley handle the lt by myself.

Garrettpearce you're bullseye I am comparing it to the speed of the short tail vs the longTail......

what do you think guy's I should go with ??? number of Hp ....

Hey Woodiebuster the transom bracket I have ot figured out what is fooling me now is the shaft.... I know its almost the same for the both except the long has a U-joint and the shorttail is a Strap or Chain to make it turn the prop I can fix something but my main concern now is the shaft with all the bearings etc......

For the handle I am not worried after a few times on the water I am sure I'll be good.

i have thought about it a thousand times and i have everything on paper except the shaft. if you have access to a machine shop it would be fairly easy

Yesss I have access to a machine shop but I saw a motor that was done all in aluminium .... Do you think it would be better ??? but if it is metal my uncle has a machine shop so I would be fine but I think we have the same issue lol the shaft.....

I thought of putting the pulley on the shaft smaller than the one on the motor bigger so I could get more rotation on the prop. do you think that will matter with anything ??

you better have a 350 up top, that thing will have NO bottom end.

If you go the sd route, will the frame be weighted back or balanced?

if you put the small pulley on the bottom you would have to put a small diameter prop on it and it wouldnt be a surface drive

if your building a small one build it where it would be weighted to the prop as if the engine were hanging off the back of the boat

also hf has 13hp for under $400 and theres tons of mods for them at affordablegokarts.com

Either way you'll have to find out how to keep your prop at a desired level.

i would go weighted back so that the prop will stay in the water easier while running

I was thinking bearings but saw that some putted bushings.

yeah but its not gunna stay at the surface more than likley, especially when he lets off the motor... hes gunna have to have some kinda trim.

itd do okay, but you cant fine tune much and would be a bitch to reset every time you hit somethin.

yeah thats it but i am thinking of doing a way so when the motor hits something its bouces up like and outboard... More work but i think its worth it ......

how big you think the inside shaft should be ????

Figure out what prop your usin first.

for that i have to know what hp I'll be running

ah Ok the mud motor. Ya I heard about it. But here where I live we only have mudbuddy's and go-devil. trying to find one use but No ONE has any !! So that is why I am going to build one
