I have a 15hp gd longtail. For some reason my shaft keeps coming out of the u joint. Also the set screw has actually started to eat away the shaft. Any ideas on how to fix would be greatly appreciated. |

there should be a bolt/nut that pinches the u joint tight against the shaft. tightn this first, then tighten the hell outt the set screw. you can also put a small tack weld on it also. it is very easy to grind off if you need to remove it later |

you can also drill a 1/8" deep hole in the shaft that is the same diameter as the set screw. Put the shaft in the u joint, tighten the u joint bolt, then drill the shaft where the set screw will sit. tighten teh set screw after drilling the hole. |

alright think I will give that a try. Because the motor is not operatable right now and I was out on a marsh and the set screw came out almost lost the whole shaft and prop |

Your going to tighten the set screw pretty good and then tack weld or weld Permanently the u- joint to the shaft. There is alot of vibration going on with the motor and it will just rock that set screw out everytime unless you weld it |

Download the instruction manual for ANY of the longtails from Go Devil. It has instructions how to properly install the shaft |

also use another set screw to act as a jam nut. |

I've been told by a guy that built his to forget the set screw that came with the yoke and take a regular hex bolt the same size of the set screw hole, tighten her down find the dimple on the shaft and drill just a bit of it out. take some loctite, and crank that puppy down good. He works in an Ag implement shop and said you cant get much torque on the allen wrench with a regular set screw. A key also helps too! |

Go Devil uses a square headed bolt for the set screw. |
