Post New User on these Longtails...Questions
First let me start off by saying I just bought a 2002 GoDevil LT with 131 hours on it. I've got some questions for you experienced guys. I really want to take care of this motor because a.) no one likes getting stranded in the middle of nowhere paddling against a 25 mph wind for 5 miles and b.) I would like for this rig to have a decent resale value. Here are my questions.

1. I've looked at the schematics and the LT itself. How do I know if the seals need replacing? And where can I find the parts?

2. Do you guys drain your fuel tank and expend all the gas in the engine before you put the rig up at the close of the season?

3. If you do not drain the fuel is there a particular fuel stabilizer that works the best for these motors?

4. Is it much easier to handle a LT with a grab bar? Or is it better sitting down?

5. Do you recommend battery chargers?

6. How often do you change the oil if you run the motor on average 50 hours per season?

7. What are the first 3 things you look at when your LT doesn't start?

8. Any other maintenance I need to be aware of with these motors?

Thanks for all the help guys! This is a great forum!

I keep marine Stabil in my gas and change my oil about every 75 hours. I would highly recommend a grab bar for a longtail, that som bitch can chunk you out the boat real quick if you arent careful.

X2 on everything da go get'er said except for maybe #2. Its easy enough to run it for 5 minutes on the trailer once a month if you don't plan on running it for a while. I do steal gas out the tank for the lawnmower and 4wheeler when needed.

Making a prop tool can save you a lot of cussing. Get a 1 1/2" wide flat bar 3' long and drill a 3/4" hole about 2" from the end. Take off the prop nuts and slide the bar over the prop shaft. The bar will grab the blades and make taking the prop off a whole lot easier. Use a LPS nickel anti-seize every 25 hrs or so and you shouldn't have any problems with the prop seizing.

also you can tell if the seals are bad if you grease it and water comes out first
and you deffinately need a grab bar
