Post subject: | New to mud motors. |
Hey yall, I just bought two older go-devil long tails and I had some questions. One is 8hp and the other is 6. The 8 runs, but needs some work. I’ll start first by cleanin out the carb and see how she does. The engine on the 6 is seized. I paid 300 for both. Was this a good deal or did I get took for a ride? I want a smaller, more portable mud motor, so I’m in the process of rebuilding the 6. I took the prop nut off, but the prop wont come off. Is there something else I need to do to get the prop off? Will a puller work? I’ve been wantin a mud motor for a long time, but was never in a position to get one, until now. I’d like to get the 8 runnin better, sell it and hopefully make enough cash off that to buy a small boat to put the 6 on. I thought about a gheenoe, if I can find one. Does anybody on the forum use one with a mud motor? Any advice for somebody new to mud motors would be appreciated. Thank you kindly. |

I have the 8hp. to, it leaks gas from the carb bowl, and i dont know what to do to stop this but other then that it runs like a mother phucker. Good luck wit the prop, i have been working for two days and still cant get mine off. |

sell the 6 keep the 8, the weight diff. isn't nearly big enough to loose 2hp over. |

i believe those props thread on. so a puller would do no good i had a older 5 hp and i took a long drift punch and stuck it thru the u-joint and engine mounting frame and used a hard plastic dead blow hammer to tap it loose. good luck |

Its coming out the bolt hole that holds the air filter on, and it leaks out the other part where the rod come up from the air filter. |

ive got a harbor freight motor that leaked somewhere out of the carb, not sure if it was the bolt or if it was a combination of the bolt and from somewhere else leakin down and drippin off the bolt. but it was just from not shuttin off the fuel valve when not in use. |

If I was putting a motor on a Gheenoe I would use the 6 hp. The difference in weight between a 6 and 8 is about 30 lbs. I wouldn't want to add that much extra weight on the transom for 2 hp. |
